| The European Space Agency (ESA) announced the final approval and selection of the "JUpiter ICy moon Explorer (JUICE)," which is the largest mission planned for the exploration of the solar system in the next 20 years (830 MEuros plus the costs of the payloads, for a final estimation of about 1.1 Billion Euros). JUICE has emerged from a five-year-long competition with many other missions.
RSLab was involved in the definition of the mission and leads the team that is studying the the radar sounder instrument aimed at the analysis of the subsurface of the icy moons Ganymede, Europa and Callisto.

| Claudio Persello was awarded with the prize for the best PhD Thesis on Pattern Recognition published in 2012 by the GIRPR, which is the Italian branch of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR).
The title of the thesis is "Advanced Techniques for the Classification of Very High Resolution and Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Images" (supervisor: Prof. Lorenzo Bruzzone). |

Lorenzo Bruzzone has been elected to serve on the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Administrative Committee for the three years term 2012-2014.
The election has been carried out by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) members all over the world. This year the ballot had 8 very highly qualified candidates of which only 3 were elected. Thus this is a very prestigious achievement. |
